After breaking her arm playing squash, Team Evox athlete Alicia Naude wanted to stay active, so she started training in the gym.
Six years later she continues to challenge herself in new ways, most recently perfecting the pull-up.

How has the gym changed your life?
Alicia says training in the gym has made her a much happier, more energetic and friendlier person. “It allows me to do something for myself during the day where the focus is solely on me for that hour or two, whether I’m there for the mental or physical aspect. I love it!”
Her 2024 goals
Alicia intends to compete this year while improving her physique and becoming a healthier and stronger version of herself so she can help others.
How does strength and muscle make you better at life?
“It allows me to be more present and do hard things. I am not tired all the time and daily activities are easy for me.”
Her approach to training
Alicia follows a set programme that targets all major muscle groups, coupled with some cardio.
“I aim to get in six workouts a week but no less than five. I take a rest day when I feel my body needs it.“
How she eats
Alicia sticks to a predominantly wholefood diet but allows herself to have something off plan now and then as this creates balance and satisfies her sweet tooth.

- What is your favourite exercise? Pull-ups because I have been working towards achieving my first proper pull-up for so long.
- How else do you stay fit and active? I like to go on hikes or a run when I’m not in the mood to go to the gym. I also enjoy trying things like Pilates or step classes in addition to my normal strength training workouts.
