Francois van Deventer is a hybrid athlete who chose the #gymlife to lose weight, improve his health, become a better athlete and start a family with his wife.

After beginning his journey in the gym to get bigger for rugby, Francois has rekindled his passion for training and is fitter than ever.

He even completed 38 events across multiple sporting codes in 2023 to mark his 38th birthday, including OCR, rugby, trail and road running, mountain biking, and triathlon.

His training approach

Francois usually performs 35 minutes of cardio, followed by 45 minutes of weight training incorporating super sets.

  • Monday: 6km run, 1.5km swim
  • Tuesday: 1 hour WattBike, weight training
  • Wednesday: 6km run, weight training
  • Thursday: 1h30 min WattBike, strength and mobility
  • Friday: Swimming (long swim)

How he eats

Francois follows a carb-cycling diet, eating low-carb for two days followed by a high-carb day.
