Primal Clear Beef Protein Isolate is a new protein powder made from grass-fed beef that offers an animal-based protein alternative to whey, ideal for anyone who wants muscle-building benefits without relying on dairy-based supplements.
Beef protein powders are generally derived from raw beef material that goes through a hydrolysation process to isolate specific protein peptides.
Passing beef through this enzymatically controlled process leaves manufacturers with a partially digested protein source that is highly bioavailable and has a complete amino acid profile.
A Dairy-Free Complete Protein
Beef protein powder is naturally free from lactose, which makes it ideal for those looking to reduce or eliminate dairy from their diets.
The hydrolysation process also removes certain elements in red meat that we might want to limit in our diets, like cholesterol and saturated fat.
Comparable to Whey
For those concerned that beef protein powders may not deliver the same benefits as whey – the gold standard in protein supplements – research confirms that both sources deliver comparable results.
A double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study1 shed more light on the effectiveness of beef protein supplements compared to whey.
The research team from the University of Tampa in Florida aimed to determine the effects that consuming two servings of either beef protein isolate (BPI) – the form found in the new Primal product – or whey protein isolate (WPI) had on post-workout recovery.
During the eight-week trial, 30 college-aged, resistance-trained males and females were randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups – a BPI, a WPI or a placebo group.
Subjects in the BPI group received two servings (46g) a day immediately after training or at the same time each day on rest days. The subjects trained five days a week, engaging in three resistance training sessions and two cardio sessions a week for the duration of the study.
The results showed that both the BPI (5.7%) and WPI (4.7%) groups significantly increased their lean body mass compared with baseline, with all three groups making strength gains.
Those in the protein groups also lost more fat over the eight weeks compared to baseline.
These findings led researchers to conclude that the “consumption of two servings of beef protein isolate or whey resulted in significant gains in lean body mass over time, which outpaced gains resultant from resistance training alone.”
Making the Switch
Based on these findings, the choice to swap whey for beef protein is more about personal preference than efficacy,
Beef protein offers distinct benefits for anyone suffering from lactose intolerance or dairy allergies but still wants to include an animal-based product in their supplement plan.
Beef protein isolate also aligns more closely with the dietary principles of consuming animal-based protein in a Paleo diet.
For those with no digestive issues, there is no reason why you can’t combine the two to add a new dimension to your muscle-building nutrition plan.
New Primal Clear Beef Protein Isolate is available from your nearest Dis-Chem Pharmacy or online at www.primalsa.co.za or www.dischem.co.za in Refreshing Cola flavour. Each serving provides 25.6g of protein, with zero added sugar.
