Planet Fitness has opened its 50th club with a new state-of-the-art facility in Durbanville, Cape Town.

The latest opening continues Planet Fitness’s mission to bring high-performance, high-access fitness to more communities across South Africa, offering best-in-class training zones, world-class equipment, and a member experience that’s designed to evolve with today’s fitness trends.

The Planet Fitness experience

“Our growth strategy has never been about numbers,” says Managing Director Mannee De Wet. “It’s about building high-quality clubs that people genuinely want to train in. Durbanville is a strong fitness community with growing demand, and we’re excited to bring the Planet Fitness experience to the area.”

The Durbanville club features the latest training innovations, including Planet Fitness’s unique Booty Factory and HYROX facilities.

HYROX is a hybrid training movement that’s sweeping the world and becoming more popular in South Africa by the day, and Planet Fitness is the official training partner in South Africa.

Strategic regional focus

While Planet Fitness has long been dominant in Gauteng, the Western Cape is now a key strategic focus.

“We’re not just opening another club,” says De Wet. “We’re growing the full Planet Fitness experience in the province – a curated space that supports members with the trends, tools and training formats they actually want. We’re building clubs that reflect how people train today.”

Alongside the new Durbanville launch, the company has also completed a major upgrade to its De Waterkant club, another Western Cape location.

With an expanded functional training floor, Booty Factory zone, and the rollout of a HYROX-specific space, De Waterkant is now positioned as one of the most progressive fitness hubs in the province.

“Our De Waterkant refurb is a statement about our commitment to Western Cape, and about supporting our communities with the very best in fitness innovation,” says De Wet.

Getting more people moving

“What excites us most is seeing more people get moving, more often, and knowing that we’re giving them spaces where they feel motivated, capable, and supported,” continues De Wet.

While the opening of the 50th club is a proud milestone, Planet Fitness is already focused on what comes next.

“We’re not chasing quick wins,” says De Wet. “We’re building a brand that delivers long-term value to our members, our people, and the communities we serve.”
